There are thousands of homes in St. Vital, Windsor Park, and Southdale still running oil furnaces. They're reliable systems when maintained. But when they fail, most HVAC companies in Winnipeg won't touch them. They don't carry the parts, their technicians haven't been trained on oil systems, and it's easier to tell you the system can't be saved than to actually fix it.
Allied is different. We work on oil furnaces. We carry common oil furnace components on the truck. We know these systems. If it can be repaired, we'll repair it. If it can't, we'll tell you that — and explain your options.
Common Oil Furnace Problems We Fix
- Burner not igniting — Nozzle clogged, ignition transformer failed, or oil delivery issue. Diagnosed and fixed.
- Flame rollout or lockout — Safety issue. We diagnose the root cause, don't just reset the limit.
- Pump failure — Oil pump seizes or fails to prime. Replacement or rebuild depending on the unit.
- Heat exchanger cracks — A safety issue. Carbon monoxide risk. We check for this on every service call.
- Blower issues — Overheating, belt wear, or motor failure on older units.
- Annual tune-up and cleaning — Oil furnaces need annual service. Nozzle replacement, filter change, combustion analysis. Reduces fuel consumption and extends life.
Boiler Systems
We also work on hydronic (hot water) boiler systems — both gas and oil. Older SE Winnipeg homes often have baseboard or radiator heat from a boiler. We repair these, service them, and replace them. We also handle boiler-to-forced-air conversions if you want to modernize to a ducted system.
Oil-to-Gas Conversion
If you're ready to move on from oil, we do the full conversion. Natural gas is significantly cheaper per BTU in Manitoba, and a new high-efficiency gas furnace will run 95%+ AFUE versus 80–85% for a modern oil furnace.
The conversion involves removing the oil system, installing a new gas furnace, running a new gas line (or connecting to existing service), and decommissioning the oil tank. We coordinate all of it.
Oil-to-Heat-Pump Conversion
An increasingly popular option — replace the oil furnace with a cold-climate heat pump (heating and cooling in one system). With Manitoba Hydro HEEL financing at 0% interest, the payback timeline looks a lot better than it did five years ago. We'll run the numbers with you.
Annual Oil Furnace Service
An oil furnace needs annual professional service. Skipping it means dirtier combustion, higher fuel consumption, and a higher risk of mid-winter failure. We offer annual tune-up packages — call us to set one up.
